Steven Smets
Welding Engineer
I work as a welding engineer at the technical inspection of BASF Antwerp (so-called User Inspectorate).
I manage a team of welding inspectors who perform daily inspections on pressure devices, pipelines and storage tanks (as part of new construction, repairs or modifications).
On new construction projects, my role starts with the welding verification of design drawings and the recording of test and inspection points. After approval of the design file, I follow up production at the supplier, which includes regular foreign visits.
For urgent repairs or modifications, I help look for sustainable solutions that ensure both safety and continuity.
My job requires a strong combination of theoretical knowledge, practical experience, safety awareness and cooperation.
An eye for detail and problem-solving thinking are essential.
