Course
Gas chromatography for separation and quality control
Do you use gas chromatography in the laboratory for quality control and want to improve your techniques and increase efficiency? In this course you combine theory and practice of gas chromatography in a manufacturer-neutral setting. You will get a feel for the different injection techniques, column types and the influence of furnace parameters. We also dive into the lab where you learn to analyze the results of experiments.

What can you expect from this course?
Learning Outcomes:
- Master the structural approach to experiment design so that you can formulate methodologies from scratch tailored to your specific analytical needs.
- Gain proficiency in various injection techniques, including Split, Splitless and Cold-On-Column, and understand their principles and applications in chromatographic analysis.
- Understand the variation of different column types and learn to select the most appropriate one for your analysis, considering factors such as stationary phase and column size.
- Optimize furnace parameters effectively to improve separation efficiency and resolution and ensure optimal chromatographic performance.
- Develop a thorough understanding of detector types, with a specific focus on FID detectors, and learn to use them effectively in quantitative analysis.
- Gain expertise in accurately evaluating chromatograms and distinguish key parameters such as resolution, efficiency and separation to refine analytical methods.
- Learn the fundamentals of quantitative analysis, including calibration techniques, standard addition and statistical methods for accurate determination of analyte concentrations.
Program
Theoretical sessions:
- What is the relationship between operational parameters and resolution of separations?
- Various injection techniques, including Split, Splitless and Cold-On-Column.
- The impact of different column types, considering factors such as stationary phase and column dimensions.
- How to optimize furnace parameters?
- The detectors of gas chromatography, with a focus on FID (Flame Ionization Detector).
- The evaluation of chromatograms, with a focus on resolution, efficiency and separation .
- How to design experiments? A structural approach.
- Methodologies for analytical needs.
From theory to practice in the lab:
